Byas Academy delivers expert hockey and cricket coaching for children aged 7–17, based primarily at Pocklington School (and Scarborough College).
Our camps are known for their professionalism, warmth and results. Every session is carefully structured so that players leave more confident, more skilled and genuinely excited about their sport.

David Byas
David Byas
Byas Academy was founded by David Byas, whose career spans elite-level playing, leadership, and coaching across both cricket and hockey.
David is a former Yorkshire County Cricket Captain, Junior International, and County Hockey player, and currently serves as Director of Sport at Pocklington School. As a player, he led Yorkshire County Cricket Club to the Championship title in 2001 and has won multiple major honours, including three John Haig Trophy finals and three Yorkshire League Championships with Scarborough Cricket Club. He also achieved national success in hockey, winning a National County Championship.
A highly qualified coach, David holds a Level 4 Cricket Coaching qualification and Level 2 Hockey Coaching qualification, bringing decades of experience in player development, leadership, and high-performance sport.
David works closely alongside his son, Ben Byas, Lead Hockey Coach at Byas Academy. Ben currently plays for the Wakefield Men’s 1st Team and is the 1st Team Coach at Pocklington School, having previously served as Head Hockey Coach at Northumbria University.
Together, they are supported by a carefully selected team of coaches who share the Academy’s commitment to quality coaching, individual development, and creating a positive environment for young athletes.
At Byas Academy, the focus is on more than just performance. The aim is to provide structured, high-quality coaching in a supportive setting where players develop skill, confidence, discipline, and a lasting love for their sport.
